How to Coupon Like the Experts

If you’re just getting started, couponing may seem a little overwhelming and maybe even a little strange. Those who are expert couponers know the many benefits of couponing and how much fun it can be. Check out these tips and learn how to coupon like the experts!

Subscribe to Multiple Sunday Papers

Sunday papers usually include great coupon inserts; if you want to get more coupons, subscribing to more Sunday papers is the best way to do so. The extra newspapers’ small cost is easily offset by the savings you will receive from the coupons inside. If you are getting digital coupons, you may find that it is helpful to get another computer. Some websites will only let you download a certain number of coupons per computer, so having more than one computer may be beneficial to get more coupons.

Plan Ahead

Before you go to the grocery store, you should plan ahead by making a thorough list of everything you will need and find all the coupons you can for the items on your list. Have this ready before you go to the grocery store; that way, you will save more time and money by sticking to your list and using coupons for everything you can. You can even attach your coupons to your grocery list.

Determine How Much You Expect to Spend

Determine how much your grocery bill should come out to. This will help you stay on budget and to make sure you don’t miss any coupons if your total at the checkout is much higher than you had anticipated.

Stack Your Coupons

Double your savings by stacking your coupons. Use manufacturer coupons alongside store coupons to save even more money. Usually, you cannot use two coupons on the same item; the exception to this is if you are using a store coupon with the manufacturer’s coupon. Find items that you can get store and manufacturers coupons for.

Not Every Coupon is a Good Deal

Even though coupons are designed to save you money, they are not always a good deal. Don’t just look at how much money you are saving with the coupon; look at things like cost per size and how much of an item you need. You may find that buying a larger quantity saves you more money than buying a smaller sized item with a coupon.

Get into a Routine

You should develop a routine for clipping and organizing your coupons. This will help you stay on track and make the most of your coupons. By making a routine to stay organized and clip your coupons, you will reduce clutter and be able to find your coupons when you need them.

Bring Your Coupons with You

Your coupons aren’t going to do you any good if you do not have them at the store with you. If you have a small accordion coupon folder, you can keep this in your purse so you have it with you all the time. Another good place to keep your coupon book is in the car; this will ensure that you have it with you every time you’re at the store, even if you have to run back out to your car to grab it.
